salam.
well..well..many issues came out lately partly due to the incoming election in manek urai. first, it was about the biasiswa national and the scrapping of 30% requirement of bumiputra share in international company. then come the reverted PPSMI followed by the extravagant style of telling the world he is already 100 days in office and doing a lot of things and last night, the announcement by our TPM that they want to make Manek Urai the agropolitan constituency ONLY IF BN WIN.
the one (actually two)that interested me the most is of course the PPSMI and the biasiswa issue. for me who came from the rural area this two issues are very personal.
Firstly, PPSMI.
personally, it is not about the language per se in this issue. the failure of our government to make good out of this is somehow saddened me. of course there are a lot of pressure regarding the issue of reverting this programme but from what has happened recently we know that this is a failure from day 1 of it implementation. why? instead of improving our children in two front that is english and science/maths, they force our children to move backwards and left behind especially the rural children. the disadvantages that they have was worsened by a poor execution of a good programme. at the end, they are not only inferior in english, maths or science, they are inferior in everything including the education system in their place.
many of us, especially the malays who is always thought to be the worst in english will feel happy when they scrapped the programme but at the same time, they, the government, fail us again. it is obvious that they don't do enough work to make this a success. when i read about our teachers' -partially the black sheep- profiency in english standard was somewhat pathetic (as how they show it), i feel more saddened. what happen with our think tank up there? why such a big programme like this is eventually thrown into the drain after six years. a failure is a failure. there is no such thing as not achieving target.
don't we have enough experts in teaching methodology in our country that can properly draw a good plan for this to be a success in the first place? of course the movement to abolish this programme is justified with this kind of failure. such a good opportunity for our children to get an advantages was ruin by a poorly executed programme. i personally think that there will be no movement to abolish the programme if it was a success. of course everyone will be very happy to see their child proficient in english (i think so).
i really hope that they make good with the announcement of revamping the english teaching strategy in our country. i don't want to here the same old story that our people is not competitive enough to enter the job market due to poor english profiency. i dont want to hear our people that come out from the university dont even have a basic english communication skill.
eventhough many are championing for our language (including the leaders), the reality is our leaders fail us in making sure our mother tongue can succeed even in our country. it is very difficult to go back and to make sure everyone use the language in everything. it is just like barking to a wrong tree. at one side we are trying to preserve our mother tongue but at the other end everything that was done by the leaders was actually destroying the path for us to preserve it. our industries and the big player in our company are already fast becoming an english speaking field that make us left behind if we dont prepare for it. there is the unwritten policy that the job applicants for the international company in our own country must proficient in english.
so what to do..it is a win-lose-lose for us
at the end of the day, it was all about a poor management and poor leadership again.
to be continued...
akar tunjang yg seakan mereput... pokok masih berdaun hijau, tapi semakin layu, tiada kesungguhan untuk menyegarkan kembali pokok itu, merawat kembali tunjangnya yg semakin parah. Sekadar membelai daunnya yg seperti hijau kekuningan.... sekadar berbangga memberitahu kepada org sekeliling, 'aku sayang pokok ini'...
